Carmel Music Society "2013 Piano Competition Finals and Winners Concert"

Our 37th Annual Competition

The Carmel Music Society sponsors an annual competition in a three-year cycle: Vocal, Piano, and Instrumental.

The 2013 Competition is open to pianists who reside, study, or were born in California, Oregon or Washington State and are between the ages of 18 and 30 on the date of the competition (June 1, 2013).

Applications must be postmarked no later than February 19, 2013.

Eight talented finalists will compete for cash prizes totaling $11,000 and the opportunity to perform for the Music Society at Sunset Center next season.

The Finalist Auditions will take place on the Sunset Center stage from 10am - 12pm and from 1:30pm - 3:30pm. Each of the eight finalists will present a varied program of 20-25 minutes.

The winners will be announced at 3:30pm, and the three winning pianists will present their programs that evening at the 8:00pm Awards Concert.

The prizes are:

First Prize - $5,000 (includes a solo recital in the CMS 2013-14 season)

Second Prize - $2,000

Third Prize - $1,500

All other finalists will receive $500.

For this event, Carmel Music Society welcomes to Sunset Center three distinguished guests who will serve as judges for the 2013 Piano Competition:

Hans Boepple, distinguished pianist and teacher

Diane Hidy, one of the Bay Area's leading piano pedagogues

Max Bragado-Darman, Conductor and Music Director of the 
Monterey Symphony

Eight Finalists Will Compete:
10:00am-Noon & 1:30-3:30pm


Winners' Concert:  8:00pm

(free and open to the public)

The three top prize winners reprise their winning programs.

Anne Thorp, President of Carmel Music Society's Board of Directors will present the awards to the three winners onstage at Sunset Center.
