Max Bragado-Darman, conductor From the opening chords of Verdi’s La forza del destino (The Force of Destiny) to the return of the majestic brass in Sibelius’s Symphony No. 1, there is no question that sheer power in an orchestra can evoke a thrill in the most casual of listeners. These works are not for the faint of heart. San Francisco based pianist Tanya Gabrielian, winner of the 2010 Carmel Music Society Young Musicians Competition, commands the bold and sometimes mysteriously sinuous melodies of Aram Khachaturian’s Piano Concerto in D-flat Major. |
