About Steve Lucky and the Rhumba Bums Featuring Miss Carmen Getit:

The "littlest Big Band" in the Bay Area plays hot swing and cool blues with sizzling guitar licks, honky tonk piano, and electrifying horns!

Born in Seattle and raised near Detroit, Steve Lucky started playing piano at age eight and was playing and singing professionally by the time he was thirteen. While attending the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor he founded and led the six-piece Blue Front Persuaders through the '80s, playing jump-blues, '40s and '50s R & B, and swing. Their novel sound and wild show was a big draw on the Midwest college circuit, earning them a spot on Star Search. Sticking to his musical roots, Lucky formed his own band in New York City and toured Europe extensively until he moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1993. Culling the best of the Bay area's musicians, Lucky started the Rhumba Bums in 1993 as a quintet but the band really took shape in '94 with the addition of Miss Carmen Getit.

In Carmen's powerful sound, one can hear echoes of her idols Ruth Brown, T-Bone Walker, Etta James, Dinah Washington, and Tiny Grimes. Miss Getit is also a versatile vocalist, swingin' or shoutin' the blues. Primarily a self taught musician, Carmen started playing acoustic guitar at 10. Carmen got her first electric guitar after Steve Lucky introduced her to the music of T-Bone Walker, Ruth Brown and others.   Recording a critically acclaimed release with the Rhumba Bums, "Come Out Swingin'!" earned four stars in both Downbeat and Blues Access Magazines and accolades from the press.   Recognized for her more swinging styles in Guitar Player Magazine as "smooth and steady", and her grittier blues playing in Experience Hendrix Magazine, where Frank-John Hadley calls Getit "one of the most striking blues guitarists in the country".   She also performed and recorded with piano blues legend Pinetop Perkins on his 2004 release "Ladies Man".

Steve Lucky & the Rhumba Bums have appeared on PBS' "CD Highway", a Bravo! documentary "This Joint Is Jumpin'!", Music Television/ FOX "Locals Only", on CBS' Good Morning America, and CNN's Showbiz with Jim Moret.

"Both Lucky's and Getit's lead vocals nail their decidedly "little big band" sound just perfectly...their delightful interplay will have you thinking you're eavesdropping on an intimate but juicy lover's spat...they'll have you jumping and jiving in no time" - 4 stars, Joseph Jordan, Blues Access Magazine
