| Breathtaking, edgy and dramatic: Renowned Czech choreographer Jírí Kylián created the internationally praised Petite Mort especially for the Salzburg Festival in commemoration of the second centenary of Mozart’s death. The choreography presents six men, six women and six foils. The foils play the role of dancing partners and sometimes seem to be more rebellious and obstinate than a partner of flesh and blood. Rising star choreographer Ma Cong was inspired by the "Tom and Jerry" cartoons in his creation of a comedic piece set to five selections of French composer Hugues Le Bars' music. Currently a principal dancer at Tulsa Ballet, Ma created French Twist at the National Choreographers Initiative last summer. Finally, Michael Smuin’s Songs of Mahler concludes this breathtaking program. Michael created a gorgeous ballet that flows through a range of emotions, from playful to dramatic and passionate. Songs of Mahler highlights the artists' classical technique and sensitivity to dramatic texture. | |

Others claim that Béla has virtually reinvented the image and the sound of the banjo through a remarkable performing and recording career that has taken him all over the musical map and on a range of solo projects and collaborations. The recipient of multiple Grammy Awards going back to 1998, Béla Fleck’s total Grammy count is 11 won with 27 nominations. He has been nominated in more categories than anyone in Grammy history. If you’re familiar with Béla, you know he loves to play the banjo in any unique situation! Edgar Meyer Three-time Grammy Award winner Edgar Meyer has won remarkable acclaim both for the music he has written and for an inexhaustible variety of recordings and live performances with everyone from the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center to Garth Brooks, James Taylor, The Chieftains and Yo-Yo Ma. Meyer is hailed by The New Yorker as "the most remarkable virtuoso in the relatively unchronicled history of his instrument [the double bass]." Zakir Hussain Zakir Hussain is today appreciated both in the field of percussion and in the music world at large as an international phenomenon. A classical tabla virtuoso of the highest order, his consistently brilliant and exciting performances have not only established him as a national treasure in his own country, India, but gained him worldwide fame.
