AH MEN! The Boys of Broadway demonstrates Betty Buckley’s vast appreciation for Broadway’s preeminent singing actors. The slant behind the show is that although Buckley has sung her share of Broadway classics most notably "Memory" from CATS, she has also not been able to sing some songs she has always longed to sing, because they were written for men.
Buckley is in excellent form sharing her fascination with men and some of the songs they have sung. Her story goes back to when she was just 14 and fell in love with Riff played by Russ Tamblyn in the movie version of West Side Story. She was so fixated on him that she even envisioned herself a Jett and would do the song "When You’re A Jet" in the family driveway complete with the Jerome Robbins choreography. That song of course was part of her show as well a divinely pure rendition of "Marie."
She also coveted a song Michael Rupert sang, William Finn’s "Venice in Eligies," a show she appeared in watching him from the wings. In "AH MEN!" she has her chance to make it her own along with many others like "Luck Be a Lady" and "More I Cannot Wish You" from Guys and Dolls, and probably the most memorable highlight when Buckley puts together a marvelous medley from Sweeney Todd- "Not While I’m Around,""Joanna," and "My Friend," each sung by a different male character in the musical.
Betty Buckley is at her most casual and relaxed, while maintaining her dramatic aura in an entertaining show filled with personal witty banter that gives the evening a heart-warming appeal, a delightful juxtaposition to her luxurious voice.

Smuin Winter Ballet
Presented by Smuin Ballet
Dates / Times:
Friday, 03/02/2012 8:00 PM
Saturday, 03/03/2012 2:00 PM
Information:
In honor of the tenth anniversary of the September 11th attacks, the program includes Stabat Mater, Michael Smuin’s response to that tragedy. An eloquent expression of grief and loss set to Dvorak’s choral work of the same name. Stabat Mater has been called "a powerful response to a national tragedy. . . one of the most beautiful ballets in this choreographer’s remarkable career" (San Francisco Chronicle). Sharing the program is The Eternal Idol, a pas de deux Smuin created for American Ballet Theatre in 1969. This sensuous work, set to Chopin’s lush Piano Concerto No. 2 in F Minor, is a wistful imagining, where Auguste Rodin’s sculpture of a nude couple locked in an embrace comes to life on stage. Rounding out the program is Michael Smuin’s Tango Palace, a seductive fantasy of possession and passion, jealousy, loss, and love. Examining both the complexities of the human heart and the inventiveness of tango itself, Tango Palace creates a feverish vision of desire through dance.
Bela Fleck & The Flecktones
Presented by: Sunset Presents Sponsored by The Producers Guild
Dates / Times:
Tuesday, 03/06/2012 8:00 PM
Information:
Groundbreaking banjoist/composer/bandleader Béla Fleck has reconvened the original Béla Fleck & The Flecktones, the extraordinary initial line-up of his incredible combo. Rocket Science marks the first recording by the first fab four Flecktones in almost two decades, with pianist/harmonica player Howard Levy, bassist Victor Wooten, and percussionist/ Drumitarist Roy "Futureman" Wooten. Far from being a wistful trip back in time, the Grammy Award-winning quartet is creating some of the most forward thinking music of their long, storied career. While all manners of genres come into play - from classical and jazz to bluegrass and African music to electric blues and Eastern European folk dances - the result is an impossible to pigeonhole sound all their own, a meeting of musical minds that remains, as ever, utterly indescribable. Simply put, it is The Flecktones, the music made only when these four individuals come together.
"All the different things I do come together to make a new hybrid," Béla Fleck says. "Everybody else in the group is doing the same things, collaborating with different people, and pursuing a wide variety of ideas, so when we come together and put all of our separate soups into one big stockpot it turns into a very diverse concoction."
