An America in Renaissance or Decline – The Challenges Facing a New President

Panetta Institute chairman and former Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta is pleased to announce the speakers and dates for the Leon Panetta 2016 Lecture Series. In the series' nineteenth year, the program will focus on the theme An America in Renaissance or Decline – The Challenges Facing a New President.

Monday, May 9, 2016, 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.: Gridlock, Partisanship and Executive Action with Mark Shields, political analyst for PBS NewsHour and columnist; Chris Matthews (invited), host of MSNBC's Hardball and author; Gloria Borger, political columnist for U.S. News & World Report and senior political analyst at CNN; and J.C. Watts, former United States representative (OK-R).

The purpose of the Leon Panetta Lecture Series is to provide a forum for some of the top experts and leaders in the nation to inform the public by addressing questions like: What will it take for the next president to be a strong commander-in-chief and world leader? What steps are needed to guide our economy to long-term economic and fiscal security? How does the next president break the partisan gridlock in order to govern? Can America be unified in the face of dramatic changes in our society, technology, and media?

Each of the Leon Panetta Lecture Series programs will be broadcast live throughout California by Comcast, Comcast Hometown Network, the California Channel and other cable networks. C-SPAN periodically broadcasts these lectures nationally. The lectures are also available for viewing via live web-streaming at www.panettainstitute.org/lecture_series/lecture_webcast.htm and are broadcast live on public radio.

To purchase tickets, or for additional information on subscriptions or the lecture broadcast schedule, please call the Panetta Institute at 831-582-4200 or visit www.panettainstitute.org.
