Monterey Peninsula Ballet Theatre Presents The Nutcracker (1ST Night)

The Monterey Peninsula Ballet Theatre (MPBT) is proud to announce its inaugural production of The Nutcracker. Tia Brown returns as Artistic Director; her over 18 years of experience with this classic ballet is without equal on the Peninsula! MPBT has given Ms. Brown the freedom to share her creative vision and excellent instruction with the young people of the area to bring this enchanting story to life in keeping with the tradition of Tchaikovsky's original ballet first performed in San Francisco 73 years ago.

MPBT has worked hard to fulfill its mission of reaching out to young people by giving them the rare opportunity to perform in a professional environment, learn about theatre production by assisting experts with props and costumes, as well as giving less fortunate children the chance to watch everything come together in a free performance. In addition, MPBT children and their families briefly suspended their fundraising activities to reach out to the dance communities that suffered losses due to Hurricane Harvey. They are proud to have partnered with The Thayer Academy of Dance providing them with the items that will get their young dancers back on the stage this season!

Come celebrate the magical tradition with their family of 107 dancers, countless volunteers, and enthusiastic supporters, all of whom have been celebrating the Christmas season since August and are now proud to present a beautiful interpretation of the Nutcracker. Stunning tutus are fluffed, scenery is polished and props are getting an extra coat of glitter, all in anticipation of dazzling the audience!

Join Clara as she celebrates the holiday with her family who include her mischievous little brother and her beloved and magical Uncle Drosselmeier. As she ventures into a world of ethereal characters, she's gifted with visions of twirling sugar plums, divine angels and pirouetting flowers. But make no mistake, this show provides entertainment for everyone – soldiers battling beasts, a prince saving a fair young lady, and fantastic wonders such as snow fall and trees growing before your eyes that you must see to believe!

To make your experience even more memorable, consider attending their Children's Kingdom of Sweets Celebration prior to the Sunday matinee. You and your child will enjoy a light lunch and can meet the Sugar Plum Fairy, Clara and the heroic Nutcracker himself!

Attending one of these performances ensures that, when your children go to bed this Christmas Eve, they are sure to be dreaming of more than just sugar plums dancing in their heads! Happy Holidays!
