Nutcracker; A Monterey Peninsula Tradition with Monterey County Pops! Orchestra LIVE! (Night 1)

Presented by Dance Kids of Monterey County

Join the celebration as Dance Kids of Monterey County presents its twenty-fifth anniversary performances of Nutcracker; A Monterey Peninsula Tradition featuring Monterey Pops! Orchestra, LIVE! The DKMC production is the only Monterey Peninsula Nutcracker featuring a live, professional orchestra.

Months before opening night, Dance Kids of Monterey County and the Monterey County Pops!, are immersed in activities surrounding all things Nutcracker; A Monterey Peninsula Tradition. With over 100 dancers and actors, 39 musicians and maestro, 10 professional stagehands and technicians and over 120 volunteers, join forces to make each performance magical. The Friday morning performance entertains 700 underserved children and has been their gift to the community for twenty-five years.

Adults and children of all ages enjoy the beauty of the Sunset Center and the opportunity to be captivated by the lure of Tchaikovsky's music, performed by Monterey County Pops!, with dancers dressed in Joanne Phelps sumptuous costumes and featuring Nicole Bryant-Stephens magical sets. The age-old story of 'Nutcracker' adapted to our own historic Monterey Peninsula demands a full-scale production complete with a full orchestra.

Get ready to be charmed by the tiniest four-year-old Shepardess Doll, swept away by the corps d' ballet, breathless with the performance of the Arabian duet, and overwhelmed by the grace of the Sugar Plum Fairy. The youngsters in the audience will delight to the antics of the Mouse King as he defends his troops in fierce battle against the handsome Nutcracker Prince. Dance Kids production has something for each member of your family!

Dance Kids has given this 120-year-old story a local influence with the Party Scene set in the Old Del Monte Hotel on Christmas Eve. Pebble Beach founder, Samuel Morse, has invited Jean Harlow, Salvador Dali, Louis Armstrong, Mae West and other celebrities to a festive holiday party, introducing his visiting European guests, the Stahlbaum's and their children Clara and Fritz, to the stars of stage and screen. Uncle Drosselmeyer captivates his audience with life size dolls who come to life and perform for Clara and her friends. The very special holiday gift of the Nutcracker doll, given by Drosselmeyer to his favorite niece, culminates the excitement of the evening and foretells the tale of fierce battles, gentle snowfalls and far-away lands.

Dance Kids of Monterey County wishes you and your family a magical holiday season and thanks you for choosing their production for your family holiday tradition!
