Big Sur Artworks Presents: [Not Your Average] Paint and Sip

Big Sur Artworks' Acrylic Paint Experience, called [Not Your Average] Paint and Sip, is an invitation to explore basic paint techniques and an exercise in demystifying the painting process. Working from photo reference and imagination, participants will create and develop their own acrylic landscape on canvas.

The process begins with a brief guided meditation, connecting to the earth and opening the mind's eye. Participants will then choose their 'inspiration' or reference photo and simplify the landscape into basic shapes and spaces: background, middle ground, and foreground. From there, participants will dive into the acrylic palette, discuss color theory, brushwork techniques, art principles, and art history references. Teachers demonstrate processes, then walk around and work one on one with participants. Each participant is supported through their own process until each unique painting is completed.

Participants will be left with the confidence to create and the basic skills and understanding of materials to continue their painting process on their own.

Tickets: $35

About Big Sur Artworks:

To paraphrase a famous local writer, Big Sur is "Nature gazing at herself in the mirror of Eternity."

And so, the artists of Big Sur Artworks love Her — undulating and lying with Her feet and sometimes Her red kelp hair flowing onto the shore, Her hills and ravines, Her golden curves and deep green forests, all flowing into their dreams and onto their canvases.

Big Sur Artworks is a group of painters who have lived in Big Sur, watched Her, recognized their humanity amid Her strength. They see this landscape and paint the glow within.

Big Sur Artworks: Magical Big Sur can be viewed in the Marjorie Evans Gallery from November 4 to December 19, 2026. Join us as we welcome Big Sur Artworks with a FREE public reception in the gallery on Friday, November 20, from 5-7 pm.
