Sunset Stories
Judi Zaches's Sunset Story
For Judi Zaches, Sunset has been woven into the fabric of her life for more than 70 years. Her connection began in 1954, when she was an eighth-grade student at Sunset School. Four years later, she crossed the very same stage to graduate from Carmel High School, beginning a lifetime of memories tied to this special place.
Over the years, Sunset evolved from Judi's school into a place where she experienced some of the Monterey Peninsula's most memorable cultural moments. She recalls being mesmerized watching Sandor Salgo conduct the Carmel Bach Festival, and for 10 years, she volunteered as an usher for the Monterey Symphony. Today, she continues to attend musical performances at Sunset Center and regards it as a beloved cultural center of the Monterey Peninsula.
As Sunset celebrates its centennial, Judi's hope is simple: that it will continue to enhance the lives of the people who walk through its doors for generations to come. Her feelings about its place in the community can perhaps be summed up best in her own words: "Sunset Center is our greatest asset."
