"There's so much detailed machinery hidden behind the curtain."

It's been a real pleasure working with the Sunset Center to renovate the theater and backstage spaces over the past few years. Taking advantage of the closure during COVID, we jumped at the chance to upgrade our lighting, sound, video, and backstage setups so we'd be fully ready when audiences returned. Thanks to generous support from the community, we were able to bring in top-of-the-line equipment, making the center the jewel of our community. I am very grateful to the team here for trusting me to lead this project. There's so much detailed machinery hidden behind the curtain—from rigging and lighting controls to the orchestra shell and safety fire curtains. Keeping all of that running smoothly takes constant care, and we're really fortunate to have such a skilled staff to keep things running smoothly.

This center is the city's single largest asset, and keeping its doors open for everyone in our community is so important. I really encourage all of you to come out and experience it—catch a show at the theater, drop by for outdoor terrace hour, or take a stroll through the art gallery. Get involved and make it your own!

I'm sure this venue will still be here a century from now, but it's going to take continued community support to keep it funded. Over the next 10 to 20 years, we'll eventually need to refresh the carpets, chairs, and drapes, plus keep up with all the behind-the-scenes gear that makes everything work. This building means a lot to all of us, and with everyone's involvement, it'll keep serving as our community's main cultural hub.
