"I am proud to say I attended school in this iconic venue."

I attended fifth grade at Sunset School in 1964–65. Mr. Douglas was my teacher, and my classroom is now used as the Green Room for cultural events.

That year I sent a Valentine to the mayor of Carmel, Hans Lehman. The mayor passed the news along to the Pine Cone, as it was the only Valentine he received. I also remember the marching drills in what is now the parking area, just for boys, a sign of the times.

I am proud to say I attended school in this iconic venue, and I feel fortunate to attend musical and other cultural events there today, including city-sponsored meetings. I am thankful that it is so well maintained and preserved.

My hope for the next 100 years is that current and future generations continue with the privilege of maintaining, supporting and growing Sunset Cultural Center as an iconic and celebrated cultural and educational venue.
