About Perla Batalla: The Leonard Cohen Songbook 

Grammy nominated vocalist, composer, and arranger Perla Batalla was born in Los Angeles, CA.  She first gained international attention as a backup singer for Leonard Cohen who encouraged Perla to embark on a solo career.  Perla released her debut Perla Batalla on the Warner/Discovery label in 1994 to great critical success. Like many original artists, Perla opted to go independent early on, releasing her second album, Mestiza--Meaning of mixed blood--on her own Mechuda Music label.  Heaven and Earth followed in 2000. Both co-written with David Batteau, the Mestiza song cycle (chosen best independent release of the year by the editorial staff at Amazon) offer a vision of a vibrant culture still nourished and inhabited by mysticism, imagery, magic and myth.

Perla's tribute to Leonard Cohen entitled Bird on the Wire (also nominated for a Grammy) features a Who's Who list of celebrated and world-class musicians, including David Hidalgo of Los Lobos, Bill Gable, Vinnie Coliauta and Greg Leisz. The album has been embraced with open arms by die-hard Cohen fans and critics alike. "Sing Out" magazine's Michael Tearson wrote: "Beautifully conceived and executed…for those uninitiated to the glories of the songs of Leonard Cohen this is a wonderful introduction. For the rest of us it is simply heavenly". Sold out performances at UCLA's Royce Hall marked the album's release.

Perla Batalla's mission of honoring her roots and exposing young audiences to the beauty of music and the Spanish language is ongoing in her outreach endeavors throughout numerous underserved communities in the United States. Perla has been the recipient of the United Nation's Earth Charter Award for extraordinary devotion to social and economic justice. As well, New Mexico's Border Book Festival gave her the Premio Fronterizo Award for "healing work in the world".

About Studio 105 Presents: 

Studio 105 Presents is a new club experience at Sunset Center. For these events, Studio 105 is transformed into an intimate nightclub where you can see the best cabaret, comedy, and cutting-edge performances in a romantic setting. A cash bar for wine and beer will be available throughout the performance.

VIP Seating: $79 or $216 for a 3-show package. Includes Reserved seating in VIP section with one bottle of wine per couple or two drink tickets per individual. (Please indicate red or white when talking to the Box Office. MUST CALL BOX OFFICE TO RESERVE VIP SEATS. 3-show package includes one night each of all 3 Studio 105 Presents shows: Perla Batalla (pick October 24 or 25), Lee Lessack (pick December 4 or 5), and Steve Lucky and the Rhumba Bums (pick February 27 or 28). 3-show package is ONLY available in person or by calling the Box Office at 831-620-2048.

Level I Seating: $49 or $135 for a 3-show package. Includes General Admission seating in Level I section with one drink ticket per individual. 3-show package includes one night each of all 3 Studio 105 Presents shows: Perla Batalla (pick October 24 or 25), Lee Lessack (pick December 4 or 5), and Steve Lucky and the Rhumba Bums (pick February 27 or 28). 3-show package is ONLY available in person or by calling the Box Office at 831-620-2048.
