Carmel Music Society presents Kevin Lee Sun, winner of the CMS 2018 Piano Competition, in a free concert
Carmel Music Society was delighted to sponsor their 40th competition on June 9, 2018 and with great pleasure announced the winner as Kevin Lee Sun.
Kevin Lee Sun, from Sacramento, CA, is the second-prize winner of the 2011 Virginia Waring International Piano Competition. He has appeared on NPR's From the Top, and in master class with world-renowned musicians, including Leon Fleisher, Garrick Ohlsson, and Steven Isserlis. Sun holds a B.A.S. Biology & Classics degree from Stanford University, where he performed Beethoven's Fourth Piano Concerto with the Stanford Symphony Orchestra. In 2015, Sun's performances of Bach's Goldberg Variations and Schumann's Fantasy won him Stanford's Louis Sudler Prize for the most outstanding senior in music. He also holds a M.M. Piano degree from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where he served as the 2016-17 Piano Department Assistant. Sun is now back at Stanford as a first-year medical student.
